Percy Barnett was a violent offender and a key antagonist in Nobody’s Property, primarily known for his role in the early life of Clia Foster and the long-term consequences of his actions.
Overview
Barnett’s life was defined by criminal activity, abuse, and repeated encounters with law enforcement. Though not a constant presence in the narrative, his actions had lasting effects on multiple central characters.
Early Life
Born in Greeneville, Tennessee, Barnett spent his youth moving between towns in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. He dropped out of school at age 14 and relocated to Nashville, where he began participating in black market trades common to the mid-1970s, including stolen goods trafficking and illicit distribution networks.
Criminal Activity
Throughout his adult life, Barnett remained involved in various illegal enterprises. In 2001, he was arrested in Pennsylvania after being found in possession of cocaine, heroin, and illegal images involving minors.
He was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison. This conviction marked one of the most significant legal consequences of his criminal career.
Later Events
Following his release in 2016, Barnett resumed criminal activity within months. During this period, he collaborated with his younger brother, Jasper Barnett, in an attempt to kidnap Sasha Willis while Clia Foster was pregnant with Nadia Willis.
The kidnapping attempt failed, leading to a law enforcement response. Jasper Barnett was presumed killed in a vehicle fire while attempting to flee the scene.
Years later, it was discovered that Jasper had faked his death and relocated to Mexico. As an adult, Nadia Willis tracked him down with the intention of killing him. However, after determining that he had abandoned his former lifestyle and expressed genuine remorse, she chose not to carry out the act.
Nadia instead issued a direct warning that he was never to return to Luna Vista or have any contact with anyone in her family other than herself, "because you do NOT want to ever see me again. Just trust me on that, and when I say I have the Barnett rage in my veins, and I try to use it for good, but I'm not perfect...I'm probably a bigger monster than your brother if we're being honest. Let's leave it at that."
Connection to Clia Foster
Barnett was the biological father of Clia Foster and was responsible for severe abuse during her childhood. These experiences resulted in long-term physical and psychological effects that influenced her later life and career.
Death
On June 23, 2030, Barnett broke into Clia Foster’s home in Luna Vista. During the incident, Nadia Willis fatally shot him while protecting her mother.
Legacy
Barnett’s actions serve as a catalyst for key developments within Nobody’s Property. His influence is most evident through the trauma experienced by Clia Foster and the resulting impact on Nadia Willis’s worldview and actions.
