Most Bullies Leave Greta Alone...For Good Reason!

Bullying is a harmful and destructive behavior that has significant negative consequences for both the victim and the perpetrator. Firstly, it causes immense emotional and psychological distress to the victim. Repeated exposure to bullying can lead to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, making it difficult for the victim to cope with daily life and perform well in school or work. Victims may also experience social isolation, as they may withdraw from social interactions to avoid further bullying, leading to feelings of loneliness and alienation.

Secondly, bullying creates a toxic and hostile environment for everyone involved, including bystanders and witnesses. It fosters a culture of fear, where individuals may become reluctant to speak up against the bully or support the victim due to potential retaliation or fear of being targeted themselves. This perpetuates a cycle of negativity and undermines trust and cooperation among peers, hindering the growth of healthy relationships and communities.

Lastly, bullying can have long-term consequences that extend into adulthood. For bullies, engaging in such behavior can lead to a lack of empathy and difficulty forming meaningful connections with others. As they grow older, they may struggle to maintain healthy relationships and face challenges in their personal and professional lives. Additionally, the trauma experienced by victims can persist into adulthood, affecting their mental health and well-being for years to come. Overall, bullying is a detrimental force that not only harms individuals in the present but also leaves a lasting impact on their futures and the society they inhabit.

However, bullies are usually cowardly, and choose targets who are unlikely to fight back, or at least unlikely to be difficult to defeat if they do. Having reached her adult height of just under 6 feet 1 inch by age 12, most bullies leave Nadia’s youngest daughter, Greta Faulkner, alone. The smaller kids are an easier target for a little while, until they start befriending Greta, who more or less holds the view that if you mess with people she gives a damn about, you might as well be messing with her. Therefore, bullies learn pretty quickly to leave Greta’s friends alone, though they do sometimes call her mean names like “Sasquatch,” making fun of her awkwardly tall height for a girl her age.
