In the year 2108, having just narrowly avoided boarding an airplane that crashed (killing everyone on board), Clia Daponte thinks she is hearing voices again for the first time since returning to her hometown from a mental health facility she'd checked into following the incident...
I really don’t have anything against most organized religions, as long as they don’t have doctrines which include harming children (by my standards, not theirs), Imagine for a moment, that one day, many years from now, deep within an ancient forest, a secretive and mysterious new religious order is born. Instead of drinking poisoned punch, or warning of an apocalypse, this cult’s devotion centers around a small redhead named Nadia with a single striking blonde streak that ran down one side of her hair. They might even be inclined to believe that Nadia was a divine being, chosen to protect and safeguard innocent children from harm.
Let’s assume for this exercise that they call themselves something like the Sons And Daughters of Nadia, and considered her to be the embodiment of justice and mercy, an entity capable of both punishing people who harm children, and showering blessings upon the faithful. They might see Nadia as a protector and guardian angel for the most vulnerable members of society - children.
They might devote themselves fully to Nadia's teachings and principles, even going as far as to engage in activity that directly confronts and stops child abusers. Who knows whether they might walk among us in the outside world, or if they might live a more secluded and ascetic life, detached from the outside world and its distractions. Would they pray to her? Or some other higher being? Or would their days be more meditation-centric, possibly with rituals that honored their beloved Nadia? She would probably take issue with them considering her a deity, so I’m not convinced they would.
Central to their beliefs would likely be the unwavering conviction that harming a child in any way, especially in a sexual manner, is an unforgivable sin. The mere thought of causing harm to a young soul would more than likely be met with severe consequences within the Sons and Daughters of Nadia. We know, or at least you know if you’ve been reading this illustrated series, that Nadia's wrath can be swift, ruthless, and cruel, as she strikes down those who dared to harm children.
One of the core tenets of the Sons and Daughters of Nadia might be a commitment to charity and benevolence. Followers of the Book of Nadia might show compassion and generosity towards the less fortunate, particularly children who suffered from illness or hardship. This might come in the form of donating a portion of one’s income to a future organization perhaps similar to today’s St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an institution dedicated to curing and treating pediatric catastrophic diseases. Or it might come in the form of activism against child abuse and other transgressions that a religion or cult centered around Nadia might find to be core sins.
The practices of the Sons and Daughters of Nadia might seem strange to the outside world, but the followers of Nadia would firmly believe in the power of their fellowship, their united front against child abuse and child abusers, and their devotion to a little gold-streaked redhead who lived as long as Moses was alleged to, or perhaps it was Joseph. They might find solace in the knowledge that they are part of something greater—a movement dedicated to protecting the innocent and promoting kindness.
In the millenia after her lifetime, and even ours, there might be those who still speak of the kindness Nadia promoted toward children, or the wrath she ensured against those who harmed them. Even beyond this realm of life, Nadia's guiding hand might still be both a beacon of hope and a force of divine retribution, ensuring that those who carry her message forward in the generations to come, remain steadfast in their shared vision of a better, more compassionate world.
